Biography
Jack Rath began working in the Melbourne film and television industry as assistant in different departments while studying Cinema and Music at La Trobe University. After two years he transferred to a Bachelor of Media Arts in film, video, sound and art-theory at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT).
During this time he also kept working in various capacities on wide range of documentaries, fiction films, public television, and music videos.
After graduation, Jack concentrated on professional editing while continuing to write and direct a number of shorts. His films have screened at international festivals and have received awards and nominations.
In 2006, together with Jörg Diernberger he formed DNR, a creative pool working in the development of concepts and scripts for German film and television. In 2007 he was asked by the Verein Bewegliche Ziele e.V. to lead a team of thirty children as director for the project “Spitzenflieger” which premiered at The International Short Film Festival Berlin.
Jack has participated in the Berlin Talent Campus and has worked with the Australian Film Commission at the Berlin Film Festival.
He has been based in Berlin since 2001.
